ORIGIN OF WWE

World Wrestling Entertainment or World Wrestling Federation as it was previously known, was founded by Vince McMahon. He is the chairman of World Wrestling Entertainment Board of Directors and is also the major shareholder of WWE. He is the creator of most of WWE television programmes.Vincent Kennedy McMahon or Vince McMahon, as he is better known, is the son of Vincent James McMahon, who was a US professional wrestling promoter. He is a professional wrestler, promoter, in ring announcer and was known by the ring name Mr.McMahon. He was passionate about wrestling. In 1980 he founded Titan sports and bought Capitol Wrestling Corporation which was owned by his father. Then he started an expansion process which changed the face of American Wrestling forever.Vince McMahon brought in many well known wrestlers among who were Hulk Hogan,  who had a national recognition due to his appearance in Rocky III, ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper, Jesse Ventura, Gorilla Monsoon, Andre the Giant, Jimmy Snuka, Don Muraco, Paul Orndorff, Greg Valentine, Ricky Steamboat and the Iron Sheik. But Hulk Hogan was without a doubt his biggest star.In 1985 World Wrestling Entertainment held the first wrestlemania event which is termed as WrestleMania I,  in Madison Square Garden in New York, which was a resounding success. This event is sometimes credited as the debut of sports entertainment. The introduction of Saturday Night’s Main Event on NBC in mid-1985 marked the first time that professional wrestling had been broadcast on network television since the 1950s.In 1993, the WWF broke new ground in televised professional wrestling with the debut of its cable program WWF Monday Night Raw. The feuds and match types developed by the end of the mid 1990's began a new era in wrestling. The fans of the WWF seemed to favour what was posed to them as the bad guy instead of the good guy.On April 29, 1999, the WWF launched a special program known as SmackDown.In March 2001, WWF Entertainment Inc. acquired World Championship Wrestling Inc from AOL TimeWarner. With this purchase, WWF was now the largest wrestling promotion in the world.In 2000, the World Life Fund(also WWF), an environmental organization now called the World Wide Fund for Nature, sued the World Wrestling Federation for the use of the same intials and as the Law Lords agreed that it was a violation of the law, the company changed all references on its website from "WWF" to WWE" on May 2002.

On May 26, 2006, WWE revived Extreme Championship Wrestling as its third brand.

Apart from the regular weekly matches on Raw, Smack Down and ECW,  WWE hold special events every month.  These are known as WWE SPECIALS.The names of these are BACKLASH, JUDGEMENT DAY, VENGEANCE MATCH, SUMMER SLAM, UNFORGIVEN, NO MERCY, CYBER SUNDAY,SURVIVER SERIES, ARMEGEDDON, ROYAL RUMBLE, NO WAY OUT in order of the sequence of events held culminating in WRESTLEMANIA, which  is the most important event of the year,  attracting the maximum number of attendance.

The  current  WWE Superstars include names like The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, John Cena, Batista, Kane, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, C M Punk, The Big Show, Randy Orton, Edge, Matt Hardy, Shelton Benjamin, Chris Jericho, Johnny Nitro, The Miz,  Christian, Mark Henry, Chavo Guerraro, William Regal, The Great Khali, Umaga , Charlie Haus, Santino Marella and many others.

Some of the former  WWE Superstars include The Rock, Bill Goldberg, Stone Cold Steve  Austin, Brock Lesner, Kurt Angle, Ric Flair, Booker T, Rikishi, Razor Ramon, The Hart Brothers, Billy Kidman, Bobby Lashley and many others.

Other than this WWE also features WWE Womens Championship in which WWE Divas fight each other for the championship. The current divas include Mickie James, Melina, Beth Phoneix, Michelle McCool, Maryse, Layla, Kelly Kelly.

Some of the previous famous WWE Divas were Trish Stratus, Lita, Stacy Keibler, Victoria, Candice Michelle and Torrie Wilson.
